Technical Assistance

GeoSUR maintains a permanent capacity-building and technological assistance program to assist partner agencies in the development of map services and geospatial catalogs. The assistance is provided remotely and on-site if required. Once partner agencies develop their geoservices, these are linked to the GeoSUR Portal.

The Program also conducts frequent Webinars and on-line training workshops to keep partners abreast of new developments in the geospatial arena and to provide short and focused training.

The following institutions offer technical assistance and support to member institutions for the implementation of various types of geoservices:

U.S. Geological Survey. The USGS/EROS provides support to the GeoSUR Program in the development of its Portal, its Regional Map Service, its Topographic Processing Service and SRTM derivatives for Latin America and the Caribbean. This institution also provides support to participating institutions in the development of their map services.

The Spanish Geographic Institute (SGI). SGI offers support to the GeoSUR Program and its participating institutions in the design of different components of the Latin American and Caribbean Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). It offers training and technical assistance in topics related to SDI development and helps identify opportunities for cooperation with European spatial initiatives and European agencies.

Agustín Codazzi Geographic Institute (IGAC), Colombia. IGAC provides support to participating institutions in the development of metadata and catalogs.

National Geographic Institute of Chile (IGM). IGM provides support to participating institutions in their implementation of map services.

National Geographic Institute of Ecuador (IGM). IGM provides support to participating institutions in their implementation of map services.
