Amazon Initiative publishes its first web map service

The Amazon Initiative (AI), a consortium of major research and development institutes, has been formed to help prevent, reduce and reverse land degradation by promoting policies and technologies for sustainable land management in the region.  AI published, in May 2010, the first map service to offers access to detailed digital maps of AI´s study area. The system can be consulted on http://www.iamazonica.org.br/IAViewer/ or via the GeoSUR Portal at www.geosur.info.

Venezuela releases its first national geographic portal

The Venezuelan Geographic Institute released in September the first Venezuelan geoportal. The application offers access to FGDC metadata developed by this geographic institute as well as WMS, WFS and WCS services linked to the site. The first release of the portal is available at: http://190.9.128.124/

The Environmental Ministry of Uruguay publishes its first map service

The map service was developed with Mapserver and PMapper and contains information on topics such as ecosystems, protected areas, hydrography, and environmental monitoring. You can visit the map client at http://www.dinama.gub.uy/geosur/map.phtml
