IDB publishes a map of Peru´s indigenous territories in the Amazon

The Inter-american Development Bank (IDB), with support from the Instituto del Bien Común in Peru, developed a GIS system with information on native communities of the Peruvian Amazon Region. The shapefile developed as part of this GIS system contains data on more than 1,200 native communities. The data can be viewed in the GeoSUR Regional Map Service available at the GeoSUR Portal, www.geosur.info.

The Instituto Social Ambiental (ISA) releases the first map on the indigenous territories of Brasil

The Instituto Socio Ambiental of Brasil, under the aegis of its Protected Areas Monitoring Program, maintains and updates periodically a national map of indigenous territories of Brasil. The data for each territory is obtained from legal documents used to establish each territory. The map is available on-line at http://www.socioambiental.org/map/index.shtm

The Nature Conservancy publishes a South American Ecosystems map

This dataset is a polygon shapefile of modeled ecological systems that occur within South America. Five input data layers - elevation, landform, geology, landcover and bioclimate - were combined to produce a map of unique ecological system footprint gridcodes. These gridcodes were then evaluated and attributed to one of NatureServe's Latin America and Caribbean Ecological Systems. The map can be viewed on-line at www.geosur.info/iirsamapas
