MOP Chile publishes its first web map service The Roads Division of Chile´s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) published its first web map service with detailed geographic information on the Chilean Road Network. The service has been developed with ArcGIS Server Enterprise and contains a great variety of digital maps of Chile, including information on roads, hydrography, urban areas, cities, towns and administrative boundaries. The service has been developed by MOP´s staff with internal funding and resources. The system can be consulted on http://geoportal.mop.gov.cl/vialidad/ or via the GeoSUR Portal at www.geosur.info. GeoSUR generates elevation derivatives for South America The GeoSUR Program, with support from the U.S. Geological Sruvey (USGS) completed in November of 2009 the development of elevation derivatives for South America using the SRTM 30-meter dataset. The original dataset obtained by the USGS contained multiple data voids, most of them concentrated in the Andes. These voids were filled using ASTER images and GTOP30 data. The resulting "filled" DEM was used to create the following derivative products for South America: Each product is divided into approximately 1700 tiles (1 degree by 1 degree) and measures about 1 terabyte. Some of the datasets will be available for consultation and download in the GeoSUR Regional Map Service. The data can also be viewed, and on-the-fly derivative products generated, using the new Topographic Processing Service (TPS) now operative in the Map Viewer (accesible from www.geosur.info ). Ecuador published the first release of its geoportal January 31, 2009 The Military Geographic Institute of Ecuador, one of the main collaborators of the GeoSUR Program, published the first release of its geoportal towards the end of 2008. This geoservice provides access to a broad range of geographical products and digital maps of Ecuador and to reference cards (metadata) that describe these maps and products. Law Decree No.6.666 of November 27, 2008 instituted under the Federal Executive Power the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. The Brazilian SDI's goal is to promote the appropriate ordinance in the generation, warehousing, access, shared use, dissemination and application of federal, state, district and municipal origin geospatial data, for the benefit of the Nation's development; to promote the use of geospatial data according to the standards and norms homologated by the National Map Commission (Concar); to avoid duplicity and waste of resources when seeking geospatial data by disseminating the metadata relative to the data available in public agencies and organizations.
